[koglist] Meghívó: A bizonytalanság két arca: hiány és variáció a fonológiában

(hétfő) 16:00 Az előadás témája két morfológiai/fonológiai jelenség, a paradigmatikus hiány, valamint a variáció, azaz szabad váltakozás. Paradigmatikus hiányról beszélünk, ha egy lexéma legalább egyik inflexiós alakja, egy "paradigmacella" hiányzik, és csupán körülírással fejezhető ki. Erre tán a legköznapibb példa a* *csukolj/*csuklj,* azonban az sem ritka, hogy egy teljes "paradigmasor" hiányzik (például a *kétli *és a *szokott *paradigmája nem tartalmaz -- többek közt -- múlt idejű alakokat). A variáció bizonyos tekintetben ennek a fordítottja, azaz egy paradigmacellát több alak is be tud tölteni. A magyarban ez gyakori eset például a magánhangzó-harmónia szempontjából ingadozó tövek esetén, így egyaránt előfordul a *hotelban *és a *hotelben.* Az utóbbi egy-két évtizedben egyre inkább a nyelvészeti kutatások fókuszába kerültek az ehhez hasonló, nem szabályos jelenségek, így számos elemzés született mind a paradigmatikus hiányról, mind a variációról különböző elméleti keretekben, konszenzus azonban azóta sem látszik kialakulni ezek megfelelő kezeléséről, és mindegyik elemzés hagy nyitott kérdést maga után. Előadásomban azokra a megközelítésekre építve teszek egy javaslatot a paradigmatikus hiány és a variáció kezelésére, amelyek szerint ezek a paradigmacella-kitöltés során felmerülő bizonytalanság eredményeként jönnek létre. Javaslatom szerint lehetséges lehet megkülönböztetni azokat az eseteket, amelyekben hiányra, illetve variációra számíthatunk, méghozzá arra az alaphalmazra hivatkozva, amelyből a paradigmán belüli regularitásokat kiszűrjük egy paradigmacella kitöltéséhez. Specifically, processing of temporal sentence information produces a space-time congruency effect on reaction time for responses arranged on the left-right axis and also for responses that consist of movements along the back-front axis. These findings are consistent with the view that time runs from left to right or from back to front. However, the results of our experiments indicate that these spatial concepts become only activated during the processing of sentences when time is a task-relevant dimension but not when time is task-irrelevant. According to this pattern of results, we have concluded that spatial concepts are not always required for the processing of temporal sentence information. In more general terms, these results cast doubt on the prevailing assumption within the framework of grounded cognition that linguistic processes need to tap sensory and motor processes in order to enable natural language understanding. Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to work within a research programme led by Dr Matthew Davis <http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/people/matt.davis/> investigating neural systems for perceiving, understanding and learning spoken language. The research will use advanced functional imaging methods (fMRI, MEG/EEG) to explore speech processing in healthy, adult participants. Additional opportunities may arise to work with children or adults with language impairment. You should have, or be in the final stages of obtaining, a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or related field, including experience of one or more neuroimaging methods. A strong computational or statistical background is desirable and experience of speech signal processing or psycholinguistics. This is a three year training and development postdoctoral position.
