Dear Cognitive Folks,
The next Fluencia Party will be on 9th February (Friday) starting at 8.00pm
in Élesztő (Tűzoltó utca close to Corvin metro station).
Info: https://www.facebook.com/events/2013110232260580/
Fluencia is a monthly organized informal "jamboree" for cogsci-,
psychology-related students (undergrads, grads), professors, researchers
from many different universities in Hungary. The idea and motivation are to
facilitate interactions, communication, collaboration among researchers
working here, get to know others and others' interests, topics, etc. And,
of course, to have some drinks and fun in a friendly environment.
Everybody is welcome to attend! If you have any further questions, do not
hesitate to ask.
All the best,
Dezso

Dear all,
We would like to invite you to the following talk by Tristan
Bekinschtein, organized as part of the ELTE Cognitive Seminar series.
Time and date:16:00 (CET), Thursday, 14. 10. 2021.
Speaker:Tristan Bekinschtein (University of Cambridge)
Title: How arousal modulates cognitive processes: using falling asleep
people to learn how thinking fragments
Abstract:Throughout the day our level of arousal and alertness varies,
affecting cognitive performance. Chernobyl, work-related mistakes, when
you submit an email and then regret it, a myriad of examples of changes
that illustrate how alertness modulates the way we think and do things.
In the Consciousness and Cognition Lab these last 10 years we have been
characterising cognitive control and perceptual decision making when
people transition from full alert and attentive to relaxed and drowsy.
Low Alertness makes people slower and more variable, but depending on
the cognitive processes (via task), the level of mistakes may or may not
change. The sharpness of a decision seems to decrease and we think this
may be explained by a relaxation of the criterion, the strictness of
what is decided with lower alertness, and that the efficiency in the
accumulation of evidence to reach the decision is what may be driving
these changes. It is this arousal internal fluctuation that allows us to
characterise cognitive processes in a pseudocausal manner.

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to remind you that abstract submissions (for on-site and virtual symposia, talks, and posters, as well as virtual presentations) for the 12th annual BCCCD meeting will be accepted until September 30, 2021 (one week from now).
We are still hopeful that the conference, organized by The Cognitive Development Center at CEU, can be arranged in a hybrid format (January 6-8 & 10-14, 2022) and we will see many of you at Budapest.
As stated before, the first, on-site component will take place at the Budapest campus of CEU, from 6 to 8 January. As usual, this section will include invited and submitted talks and symposia, as well as poster presentations. While mainly an in-person event, emphasizing face-to-face networking, talks and symposia will be streamed online during this component with additional virtual participation options.
A second, virtual component will take place online during the subsequent week, from 10 to 14 January. On-site participants will take part in this component as well but we welcome additional submissions of empirical and theoretical work from those who prefer or are able to present only virtually. All presenters will have their dedicated channel on an online platform, with their material (video & other) uploaded directly into the channel, so that attendees will have access to the presentations that they can discuss in the same space. Additionally, presenters will be asked to be online in their channel during assigned sessions, so that participants in all time zones can attend each other's presentation slots.
Regarding the symposia submissions, please indicate also your preferences whether you would be able to attend the on-site conference and present in person at Budapest, or you would prefer to join only the virtual component of the conference. (You can submit a symposium proposal for either fully on-site or fully virtual format. So in case some speakers can only make it online, we ask you to submit for the latter, fully virtual format where all speakers present their talks during the online part of the conference.)
We are committed to create an impactful and inclusive conference in spite of the changing circumstances. With this hybrid format, we want to ensure that all registered participants will be able to benefit from similar opportunities during BCCCD22.

Kedves Mindenki,
A CogStat oktatásban való használatát támogatandó tartunk egy workshopot
magyar nyelven szeptember 20-án. A szoftver jelenleg elsősorban a
pszichológus BA oktatás során is tanított eljárásokat ismeri (bár sok
ponton ezen már túlmutat), ezért használható lehet más olyan területeken
is, ahol hasonló eljárásokat alkalmaznak, mint pl. nyelvészet, etológia,
pedagógia, stb. Elsősorban olyan kollégáknak javasoljuk a részvételt, akik
