Christof Rapp studied in Tubingen and Munich. He was guest professor at the University of California, Berkeley and Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. He is author of the books Identität, Persistenz und Substantialität. Untersuchung über das Verhältnis von sortalen Termen und Aristotelischer Substanz, (Freiburg/Munich, 1995); Vorsokratiker (Munich, 1997) and Aristoteles zur Einführung (Hamburg, 2001, 2nd ed. 2004). He translated into German and commented Aristotle's Rhetoric (Munich, 2002) and, with Tim Wagner, Aristotle's Topics (2004). He edited Aristoteles, Metaphysik. Die Substanzbücher (Zêta, Êta, Thêta) (Berlin, 1996), and, with Christoph Horn, Wörterbuch der antiken Philosophie (Munich, 2002).

2. rész: A vizuális csoportosítástól a mondatprozódiáig
Az előző heti előadás célja annak a feltevésnek a kísérleti igazolása
volt, hogy létezik egy olyan kognitív képesség, nevezetesen a
csoportosításé, ami egyrészt rendelkezik a rekurzió alapvető
tulajdonságaival, másrészt kellően általános ahhoz, hogy alapul
szolgáljon specifikus modalitások létrejöttéhez, beleértve a nyelvet,
a zenét és a táncot is. Az előadás időbeli korlátai között egyrészt
példákat láttunk a rekurzióra a számsorok, a tájékozódás és a
társadalmi szerveződés fogalmi ábrázolásában, másrészt bemutattuk,
hogy a tánc és a zene struktúrája is rendelkezik rekurzív
tulajdonságokkal. A nyelvi rekurzió általános, nyelvtől független
tulajdonságainak a megragadására absztrakt, vizuális elemek
csoportosítását vizsgá! ltuk és megállapítottuk, hogy (a) a vizuális
csoportosításnak közvetlenül megfeleltethető egy időbeli csoportosítás
és (b) a rekurzív vizuális csoportosításnak rekurzív időbeli
csoportosítás felel meg.
A továbbiakban azt fogjuk bemutatni, hogy a rekurzív vizuális
csoportosításból levezethető a nyelvi rekurzivitás azáltal, hogy maga
a mondatprozódia is szerkezetfüggően rekurzív azáltal, hogy a mondat
tagolása (ritmusa) ugyanúgy épül fel, mint az absztrakt vizuális
elemek időbeli reprezentációja (ritmusa). Ezen általánosítást úgy
tesszük meg, hogy különböző életkorú személyekkel (köztük
kisgyermekekkel) végzett kísérletek eredményeire támaszkodunk a
(beszéd)ritmus különböző absztrakciós szintjeinek vizsgálatában.
A téma tárgyalása során kitérünk a kísérletek technikai részleteire
is, azt a kérdést vizsgálva, vajon mennyire szabad hinnünk a
fülünknek, a szemünknek, a számoknak. A kísérleti nyelvészet
szemszögéből érintünk elméleti és gyakorlati szempontokat, bemutatva
az utat a tesztektől a kiértékelésig, szólva a számítógép és a
statisztika áldásairól és csapdáiról.

1st Philosophy Graduate Conference at the Central European University,
Budapest
March 18th and 19th 2006
Keynote speaker: Simon Blackburn (Cambridge)
The conference aims to bring together graduate students from Central-East
Europe and the rest of the world who share an interest in analytic philosophy
and analytically oriented history of philosophy.
Participating students will speak for approximately 40 minutes, followed by a
10 minute commentary by a student or faculty member, and a discussion period.
We are delighted to welcome Simon Blackburn from the University of Cambridge,
who will give the keynote address.
The conference is supported by a grant by the Research Board of CEU.
