The first part of the talk will explore my work on generalization, integrating developmental and social learning perspectives. Through a Bayesian framework, I show how humans generalize from limited experience, with applications across diverse contexts such as spatial, conceptual, and social environments. This framework also provides empirical support for Alison Gopnik's "cooling off" hypothesis and sheds light on the adaptive mechanisms of social learning in immersive environments. In the second part, I will shift focus to compositionality and cultural evolution-two domains traditionally studied with disjoint methods. I will introduce my ERC-funded project, which offers a mathematical framework for compositional compression as a solution to unite these domains.
