GAME THEORY: ITS AMBITION TO SERVE AS THE FOUNDATION OF THE SOCIAL
SCIENCES AND OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY
Game theory presents itself as the study of collective decision making.
It has however come under frequent attacks on the ground that its
demands for human rationality are overly stringent. It responded to
these challenges vigorously by the imposition of the construct of
evolutionary games. In this talk I suggest to consider, in turn, the
structure of its so-called solution (or equilibrium) concepts. These
concepts can be assessed independently from the norms of rationality
the theory tends to entail. However, as I will argue, none of the
equilibrium concepts leave room for truly interdependent choice and
thus the theory should be seen as unable to address a large range of
issues in the social sciences and in moral philosophy - an
embarrassment given its wide-ranging ambitions. I will demonstrate this
claim by the example of the Prisoner's Dilemma and will especially
consider the extent to which this game can contribute to the discussion
of central issues in moral philosophy.
In the talk, I will present the relevant solution concepts in their
full-fledged mathematical form so that we will be able attend without
hindrance to their conceptual structure.

Quantization in mathematics
Quantization, a topic as everybody knows coming from physics, is more
and more entering pure mathematics in the sense of quantization
mathematical structures themselves. The approach of deformation
quantization does presently seem to be the most successful and
deformation quantization of mathematical structures - from topological
spaces and manifolds over groups to special functions - is everywhere
present. We present an overview, focusing on the general ideas of this
approach and leaving out the technical details. Quite separate from the
modern approaches, there is the old idea of Birkhoff and von Neumann
that quantum theory leads to the introduction of a nonclassical logic
and that one should develop a corresponding quantum set theory. We give
heuristic arguments showing that it seems indeed to be possible to view
the modern quantum deformation theory as doing mathematics in such a
quantum set theory.

Az eloadas absztraktja:
DOES WORKING MEMORY NEED THE EPISODIC BUFFER?
by
ALAN BADDELEY
Department of Experimental Psychology
University of Bristol
ABSTRACT
In 1974, Baddeley and Hitch proposed a three component model of working
memory. Over the years, this has been successful in giving an integrated
account not only of data from normal adults, but also neuropsychological,
developmental, and neuroimaging data. There are, however, a range of
phenomena that are not readily captured by the current model. These are
described and a fourth component, the episodic buffer, is proposed. It
comprises a limited capacity system providing temporary storage of
information held in a multi-modal code, capable of binding information
from the subsidiary systems, and from long-term memory into a unitary
episodic representation. Conscious awareness is assumed to reflect the
principal mode of retrieval from the buffer. A preliminary attempt to
specify the model is made by offering speculative answers to eight basic
questions. The new model differs from the old principally in focusing
attention on the processes of integrating information, rather than on the
isolation of the sub-systems. In doing so, it provides a better basis for
tackling the more complex aspects of executive control in working memory.
Informaciok Alan Baddeley-rol:
ALAN D. BADDELEY, CBE, Professor of Psychology, University of Bristol.
Alan Baddeley is one of the most influential memory researchers of our
time. He became well-known in the 1970s due to developing the concept of
working memory (Baddeley & Hitch, 1974).
He obtained his MA at Princeton University and his PhD at Cambridge
University (1962). He spent most of his academic life (1958-67 and
1974-95) at the MRC Applied Psychology Unit, in Cambridge, where he was
director for 20 years. This institute is one of the most important centres
of experimental and applied psychology. Since 1995 he is Professor of
Psychology at the Universiy of Bristol, where he is Head of the Centre for
Working Memory.
He is Fellow of the Royal Society, Honorary Foreign Member of the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences
and he is elected to the European Academy. He was President of the
Experimental Psychology Society between 1984-86 and President of the
European Society for Cognitive Psychology (1986-90). In 1999 he was
honoured one of the highest British state awards by Queen Elizabeth II,
the title of Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
He is the author of 9 books, 5 edited books and 9 broadly applied
neuropsychological tests. Currently he is involved in the experimental and
neuropsychological research of the executive component of working memory.

Koordinacio multi-agens rendszerekben
A tobb - akar egymastol fuggetlen - agensbol (az egyszeruseg kedveert,
pongyolan: cselekvobol) allo rendszereket multi-agens rendszereknek
nevezzuk. Meglehetosen altalanos definiciorol leven szo, multi-agens
rendszerekkel igen gyakran talalkozunk a bennunket korulvevo mind
termeszetes, mind mesterseges kornyezetben. Ilyen rendszert alkot
kisebb csoport is. Ugyancsak ide sorolhatok a rovartarsadalmak es egyeb
allatkoloniak is. E rendszerek eseteben az egyik legfontosabb,
legerdekesebb folyamat a koordinacio. Ez az a mechanizmus, melynek
segitsegevel a rendszer szereploinek tevekenysege osszehangolodik a
kulso korlatok betartasa, illetve valamilyen kozos cel elerese
"erdekeben". Ide tartozik a hangyak elelemkeresesenek mikentje, a
vallalatok iranyitasa, de pl. a vastaps spontan kialakulasa is. A
halozatok es az elosztottsag ideajanak terjedesevel a multi-agens
rendszerek egyre gyakoribbak a szamitogepes vilagban is. Ez
hagyomanyosan elsosorban kliens-szerver architekturat, illetve elosztott
problemamegoldast (a szereplok egyazon problema megoldasan faradoznak)
jelent.
ellenerdekelt szereplokbol allo rendszerek. E rendszerek eseteben
kulonosen fontos a koordinacio vizsgalata, hiszen a korlatok betartasa,
tartalmaz. Az eloadasban a termeszetes (azaz nem-szamitogepes)
rendszerek fobb koordinacios mechanizmusait tekintjuk at, felvillantva a
mesterseges (azaz szamitogepes) multi-agens rendszerek epitesekor
felhasznalhato fobb modszereket. A jelenleg letezo konkret szamitogepes
