Title:Age-related changes in the auditory processing and in the balance
between attention and distraction
Abstract:In order to interact with our environment in an adaptive way,
we need to filter task-relevant events while ignore task-irrelevant
ones. However, such a perfect attention set cannot be established: rare,
unexpected sensory events capture our attention, in other words, we get
distracted. Numerous studies suggest that this balance between attention
and distraction changes during the lifespan; specifically, older adults
are associated with deteriorated frontal lobe functions which result in
a decreased ability to inhibit the processing of irrelevant information,
leading to greater susceptibility to distraction. Moreover, aging is
also characterized with declined sensory processing, further
contributing to decreased performance in different tasks. My talk is
going to focus on the electrophysiological correlates of the interaction
between sensory processing and its top-down modulation during aging in
the auditory modality. I will also discuss these processes in context of
the behavioral performance, highlighting the role of compensation and
motivational factors.

by Hanna Marno and Bálint Varga | BCCCD 2022 Ch airs
Dear all,
Due to renewed increase in the number of COVID-19 infections<https://graphics.reuters.com/world-coronavirus-tracker-and-maps/countries-a…> and continuing uncertainties regarding the underlying trends and potential pandemic-related regulations in Hungary, the organizing committee has made the difficult decision to hold a fully virtual BCCCD meeting once again, forgoing the previously announced hybrid option. This means that the conference will take place exclusively online, between 10 and 14 January 2022. We are very sorry that we won’t be able to host you in Budapest, but given the aforementioned circumstances, we cannot confidently plan a safe and well-attended local event.
The presentation formats will be adjusted to the online constraints the following way. All accepted poster submissions will transform to virtual presentations. Virtual presenters will have their dedicated channel on an online platform, with their material uploaded directly into the channel, so that attendees will have access to the presentations that they can discuss in the same space. Additionally, presenters will be asked to be online in their channel during assigned sessions, so that participants in different time zones can attend each other's presentation slots. Accepted paper submissions will either move to one of the online live paper sessions, or, in case they were also submitted for poster sessions but not selected to be included in the paper sessions, will also be transformed to virtual presentations. Similarly, accepted virtual presentations will either move to an online paper session or remain virtual presentations. Finally, all accepted symposia (whether they were submitted to the on-site or the online part of the conference) will be held online, and we will offer the option to the contributors of not selected symposia to turn their talks into virtual presentations. We will notify the corresponding author of each submission about acceptance and the format of their presentation by the end of this week.
[Chenges in presentation formats]
We hope that in spite of this change in format, BCCCD22 will prove to be a professionally stimulating and memorable experience.
