The philosophy departments of the University of Miskolc,
the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Eotvos University,
the Technical University of Budapest,
the Institute of Philosophy of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences,
and the Hungarian Committee of IUHPS/DLMPS
announce a
CONFERENCE
IMAGES AND REALITY
The conference aims to explore the nature of scientific
representation. Papers are invited especially from those
working in the history and philosophy of science, sociology
of knowledge, naturalized epistemology, and cognitive
science.
Topics include
Kinds of representations: linguistic and non-linguistic
The literal and the non-literal
Images before and after reality: prescription vs.
description, prediction vs. explanation
Representations which do not represent? -- realism vs. anti-
realism
Producing representations or constructing reality?
Virtual reality -- real virtuality
Modern or postmodern? -- How many images and realities?
