In response this paper maintains thatphysicalism is rationally compelling once the causal completeness of physicsis accepted. This premise is a highly empirical claim, however, and indeedone widely rejected by scientists until relatively recently. Good evidencein favour of the causal completeness of physics has emerged only over thelast century.
