For those who are in the Pittsburgh area, Carnegie-Mellon University will be arranging a memorial service. Herb's many contributions applying precise thinking and clear writting established him as a founder of several fields. His book, "The Sciences of the Artificial" exemplifies these qualities and is a foundation for the complex systems field. Many of us will treasure the opportunities we had to interact with him, and will miss his insight as well as his friendship.
