The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is pleased to announce the inauguration of its
Institute of Cognitive Science, which offers a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science. The Institute
of Cognitive Science emphasizes the comparative study of human, animal and machine
cognition. The ICS, one of the university's centers of excellence, links researchers
in various university units, including the Cognitive Evolution Group, the Center for
Advanced Computer Studies (CACS), and the departments of Psychology, Communicat
Beginning in January of 2000, Ph.D. students will have the option to concentrate in
psycholinguistics, thus we welcome applications from students who are interested in the
study of language processing. The NSF-funded Psycholinguistics Laboratory at the Institute
is equipped for both reaction time and eye movement experiments, and is headed by Dr.
Julie Boland. Additional expertise and advising will be available from other faculty with
active interests in language processing, including Patricia Kilroe (En
Financial support for graduate students is available through the Institute of Cognitive
Science in the form of assistantships and fellowships. This support is awarded on a
competitive basis, but the Institute currently has adequate funds to cover most students
