SPATIAL RELATIONS IN NATURAL LANGUAGE
(THE CONCEPTUALIZATION, CONSTRUCTION AND SITUATED USE OF SPATIAL RELATIONS

as part of the 7th INTERNATIONAL PRAGMATICS CONFERENCE organized by the
International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), to be held in Budapest,
Hungary, 9-14 July 2000.

The PANEL SESSION on THE CONCEPTUALIZATION, CONSTRUCTION AND SITUATED USE
OF SPATIAL RELATIONS IN NATURAL LANGUAGE is an initiative to bring together
linguists, cognitive scientists, philosophers, etc., attending the 7th
International Pragmatics for a specifically-focused forum to discuss the
pragmatics-related aspects of the relation between language and spatial
cognition, the conceptualization of abstract relations in terms of spatial
relations and its symbolization in natural language, and the construal of
spatial relations in language.=20
.The PANEL SESSIONS on SPATIAL RELATIONS IN NATURAL LANGUAGE will be held
in the PARALLEL SESSIONS slot of the IprA 2000 Conference program. The
final number of the PANEL SESSION units on SPATIAL RELATIONS will be
determined by the number of contributions accepted for presentation. The
maximum number of contributions to the panel is twelve (for a total of
three units).
Each PANEL SESSION will meet for 90 minutes, and comprises a set of four
15-minute contributions and 30 minutes of general discussion. Written
versions or extensive outlines of all panel contributions should be made
available to the other contributors prior to the conference to facilitate
discussion.
We invite you to submit your panel presentations to the PANEL ORGANIZERS
(addresses below) by NOVEMBER 1, 1999. Panel presentations will be subject
to anonymous review
Paper submissions for panel contributions should contain:
1. an e-mail version (word and/or rtf encoding) of the one-page abstract,
to be sent to both Hubert Cuyckens (Hubert.Cuyckens(a)arts.kuleuven.ac.be)
and L=E1szl=F3 I. Koml=F3si (Komlosi(a)btk.jpte.hu);
2. 10 (ten) copies of the printed, hard-copy-version of the
ONE-PAGE-ABSTRACT together with a printed, hard-copy-version of the IPrA
official PAPER SUBMISSION FORM to be sent to Hubert Cuyckens at the
