Dear Colleague!
The Budapest Mind Society was founded in mid-September, 2004, by two
graduate students, Hong Yu Wong (UCL) and Istvan Aranyosi (CEU), and its
purpose is to facillitate communication among researchers in philosophy
of mind and related subjects in Hungary.
We are organizing talks on a regular basis, with speakers mostly from
Hungary. However, researchers from outside Hungary are very welcome to
present their newest research in these fields. We already have a list of
potential speakers for 2005, who expressed interest in lecturing, and we
would be happy to extend it as much as possible. If someone has some
business in Hungary and would like to give a talk under the aegis of the
society, (s)he should not hesitate contacting the organizers.
Information about the society, contact, and current schedule is to be
found at:
http://philosophy.elte.hu/bms/
We are happy to observe that the BMS, even if the newest such forum of
ideas in Hungary, has become the most successful of its kind so far, in
terms of attendance (numbers and diversity [in terms of research,
institutional, and ethnic background]).
Part of our future plans is to find sources of funding, to be able to
set up an annual conference (with a student section and a paper prize),
as well as a reading group, discussing a new and influential philosophy
of mind monograph each year, followed by a workshop having the author of
the monograph as a discussant. Ideas about potential international
sources of funding are extremely welcome.
Yours with best wishes,
Istvan Aranyosi

>>
>>
>> TOPICS OF INTEREST OF M4M
>>
>> The following list is provided as an example of suitable topics for

>> broadly conceived. The list is by no means exhaustive and is given
>> in an arbitrary order:
>>
>> * Automated theorem proving
>> * Decision methods
>> * Proof methods
>> * Standard and non-standard inference problems
>> * Model checking
>> * Testing
>> * Expressive power
