EEG-neurofeedback in ADHD – theory and practice (A.B.) 2. EEG signal decomposition – applications in event file coding and Tourette* *Syndrome (A.T.)* date: 10th October 2019, 18:00 place: room 305, Institute of Psychology ELTE, 46 Izabella street, Budapest, 1064 Abstract: the joint talks of Annett Bluschke and Adam Takacs provide an overview of the intertwined cognitive and clinical research in the Action Lab at the TU Dresden. The lecture starts with an overview of the general concepts and tools what the research group is using to better understand childhood-onset disorders. Annett Bluschke will show this through neurofedback studies for ADHD. She will present (1) the origin of the concept of neurofeedback in the therapy of ADHD, (2) the current trends in neurofeedback, (3) and her results concerning the effect of neurofeedback on the neuro-markers of inhibition in ADHD. Adam Takacs will introduce the RIDE, a signal-composition method to analyse EEG data, and its application in the research of event-file binding in Tourette Syndrome. This talk marks a new collaboration between the universities of Dresden, Lübeck, ELTE, and the Vadaskert Hospital. We are really looking forward to meet you there! The CEU Department of Cognitive Science and the Social Mind Center cordially invites you to its talk by Anna Borghi<http://laral.istc.cnr.it/borghi/> (Sapienza University of Rome; Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies, CNR, Italy) Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2019 - 17:00-18:30 Location: CEU, Oktober 6. Street 7, room 101 Grounding abstract concepts: the case of ownership How do we develop the ability to understand and use concepts such as "freedom" and "ownership"? The issue of how abstract concepts are represented is hotly debated in the last years, also owing to the difficulty in accounting how they are grounded in perception and action systems. In the last years multiple representation views have proposed that, compared to concrete concepts, abstract concepts are grounded to a larger extent in linguistic, emotional and social experience. In the talk I will outline the main claims of a multiple representation view on abstract concepts, the WAT (Words As social Tools) proposal, and I will report evidence consistent with it. In the last part of the presentation I will illustrate recent studies on grounding of a specific abstract concept, that of ownership. We are looking forward to see you at the talk! PÁLYÁZATI FELHÍVÁS A Természettudományi Kutatóközpont főigazgatója Fiatal kutatói álláshelyet hirdet a Kognitív Idegtudományi és Pszichológiai Intézet, Kísérleti Pszichológiai Kutatócsoport „tudományos segédmunkatárs” közalkalmazotti munkakörének betöltésére A munkakörbe tartozó lényeges feladatok: - Téma: A szándékos cselekvés, az észlelés-cselekvés interakció pszichológiai törvényszerűségeinek vizsgálata kísérleti pszichológiai és kognitív idegtudományi módszerekkel - A fiatal kutató feladata / munkájának célja: A szakmai módszertan (többek között EEG/ERP, szemmozgáskövetés) elsajátítása és alkalmazása, a téma nemzetközi irodalmának nyomon követése, kísérlettervezés, kísérleti elrendezések programozása, adatfelvétel, adatelemzés, kéziratkészítés, az eredmények publikálása nemzetközi szaklapokban, valamint a kutatáshoz kapcsolódó szervezési és adminisztratív feladatok. Pályázati feltételek: - Egyetemi diploma (elsősorban, de nem kizárólagosan pszichológia, kognitív tudomány területén) - Középfokú „C” típusú angol nyelvvizsga - A fiatal kutatók felső korhatára 30 év (kivételes esetben 35 év), a 10 éven aluli gyermeket nevelő kutatónők esetében a korhatár gyermekenként 2 évvel meghosszabbodik és ez vonatkozik a gyermeküket egyedül nevelő kutatókra is. Előnyt jelent: - Kísérleti pszichológia, kognitív idegtudomány területén szerzett kutatási tapasztalat; - Programozási, statisztikai ismeretek; - A fiatal kutatók alkalmazása során a magyar állampolgárságú, illetve a határon túli magyar fiatalok elsőbbséget élveznek A jogállására, illetményére és egyéb juttatásaira a „Közalkalmazottak jogállásáról szóló” többször módosított 1992. évi XXXIII. törvényben előírt rendelkezések az irányadók. A fiatal kutatói álláshelyek pályázati formában történő betöltéséről a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia elnökének 2/2017. (I.10.) számú határozata érvényes. The CEU Department of Cognitive Science cordially invites you to its talk by: Prof. *Josef Perner *(University of Salzburg) [web <https://ccns.sbg.ac.at/people/perner/>] Title: *Mental Files in Perspective* Date: Wednesday, 2 October 2019 Time: 17:00-18:30 Location: Department of Cognitive Science, CEU, Oktober 6 st. 7, room 101 Abstract: Mental files theory provides a unifying view on seemingly unrelated phenomena in Cognitive Development and Cognitive Neuroscience. A mental file represents/refers to a particular individual (object or person), tracks it over time, and stores knowledge about it. Conceptualizing an individual in different ways puts different perspectives on it. This is captured by coreferential files for the same individual, e.g., Cicero and Tully would be assigned two different files. Knowledge of their identity is implemented by the metacognitive action of linking the two files for information to flow between them. The assumption that this ability develops around 4 years explains why identity statements and beliefs (and a series of other perspective problems) are understood at this age. Linking of files also has a common neural substrate in the dorsal part of the left IPL (inferior parietal lobe), which is responsive to, e.g., representing beliefs, identity statements, mathematical equations, person recognition.
