PhD Studentship in Cognitive Neuroscience
The Birkbeck Psychology Department was rated 5 in the last Research
Assessment Exercise. It is now offering a departmentally-funded PhD
studentship, available from October 1998, to work in the laboratory of
Professor Mark Johnson on issues concerned with the development of visual
cognitive abilities in infants in relation to the postnatal growth of the
brain. Techniques employed can include the use of high-density
event-related potentials with infants and adults, connectionist/neural
network modelling, eye movement scanning, and behavioural testing of normal
and abnormal populationsl. While candidates should have some developmental
interest, work on ERP correlates of visual cognition in adults is also
possible.
Students with, or expecting, a first class or upper second class degree in
experimental psychology, cognitive science, or neuroscience, should send
their full CV, the names of two referees, and a 2-page statement of their
