Abstact: The 'digitalist" school in cognitive science (represented e.g. by Pylyshyn) maintains that thinking is essentially propositional in character, whereas the 'analogist' school (represented e.g. by Kosslyn) maintains that thinking is essentially oictorial in character. This talk endeavours to find out what a philosophically-minded linguist can contribute to this controversy.
