Kedves Kollégák, Megjelent az Általános Nyelvészeti Tanulmányok XXIX. kötete: Kísérletes nyelvészet címmel. A kötet bemutatóját 2017. december 19-én, kedden 16.00 órától tartjuk. Kenesei István főszerkesztő és Bánréti Zoltán kötetszerkesztő mutatják be az új kötetet. Helyszín: MTA Nyelvtudományi Intézet, Bp., VI. Teréz krt. 13., 108-as előadóterem. Az Általános Nyelvészeti Tanulmányok XXIX. a kísérletes nyelvészetet alkalmazva olyan kutatások eredményeit ismerteti, amelyek valamely laboratóriumban végzett kísérletek eredményein alapulnak. Mind a legmodernebb technikai eszközrendszerekkel felszerelt laboratóriumi struktúra, mind valamilyen speciális terep (óvoda, iskola, rehabilitációs intézet), mind pedig az internet, például a Facebook is szolgálhatott kísérlet lefuttatásának kereteként. A Developmental Science folyóirat 2018. januártól új cikktípust indít útjára, a Registered Reportot. A cikktípus lényege, hogy a szerzők az adatgyűjtés előtt leadják bírálatra a kézirat bevezető és módszertani részét, így a bírálat azt értékeli, hogy a tudományos kérdés, illetve a választott módszerek megfelelőek-e. Ha igen, akkor a cikket még az adatgyűjtés előtt elvben elfogadja a folyóirat azzal a feltétellel, hogy az adatgyűjtés valóban az elfogadottaknak megfelelően történik. Így a szerzők akkor is biztosak lehetne munkájuk publikálásában, ha az eredmények nem felelnek meg a predikcióknak, vagy esetleg nem lesznek szignifikánsak. The CEU Department of Cognitive Science and the Social Mind Center cordially invites you to its talk by Kristian Tylén<http://pure.au.dk/portal/en/persons/kristian-tylen(9950d8bc-e1cd-400a-a547-…> (School of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University) Date: Wednesday, December 13, 2017 - 17:00-18:30 Location: Department of Cognitive Science, CEU, Oktober 6 St. 7, room 101 Joint Problem Solving and Cognitive Diversity The standard story about human collaborative joint action has often taken the point of departure in one of two alternative approaches: 1) a more mentalistic stance suggesting that joint action entails a level of shared representations based on capacities for theory of mind and perspective taking (e.g. Tomasello et al 2005), or 2) an anti-representational approach emphasising low-level mechanisms of motor coordination and synchronisation (e.g. Richardson et al 2007). To draw a rude caricature of these approaches one assumes joint action to entail that we are "similar on the inside" while the other entails that we are "similar on the outside". In this talk, I will present experimental work in progress that investigate collaborative problem solving in situations where optimal solutions seem contingent on the extent to which collaborators contribute different actions, perspectives, experience or cognitive styles. In other words, I will suggest that some classes of joint problems afford some element of cognitive diversity. In previous research diversity has been associated with personality traits, but I will suggest that diversity can also be stimulated in several (more dynamic) ways in contexts of social interaction, e.g. in the way collaboration is orchestrated or how groups are assembled in larger networks. (Wednesday), 15.00/ *Lilla Magyari** **Prediction of turn-taking in infancy* Natural conversations are characterized by giving and taking turns between conversational partners. It is a crucial feature of ever day turn-taking behavior that speakers often start their turn immediately after the other’s turn. Timed responses are achieved by predictions of when a current speaker ends her turn. Some studies have attributed a critical role to linguistic anticipation in the prediction of when a conversational turn is going to be finished, and it has been also shown that early recognition of the intent behind the utterances is also crucial for timed responses. It is intriguing then that a systematic way of turn-taking behavior appears rather early during human development, and it even precedes the development of linguistic competence. In my talk, I would like to present the plan and the design of an eye-tracking study which examines whether prediction of turn-transitions is closely related to semantic predictions and conceptualization as early as 14 months in development.

Ketamine, NMDAr Dear MMN colleagues, I have a question, and since you all are the best and brightest of the MMN world, I thought I would ask you all! If there is an answer out there I suspect one of you would know. Animal and human studies show that NMDAr antagonists such as ketamine (generally) reduce the size of the MMN to simple physical parameter changes. Is anyone aware of studies where the more complex pattern MMN has been tested with NMDAr antagonists? I am working on a grant and they are not convinced the pattern MMN and “simple” MMN utilize the same basic mechanisms. I don’t want to have to give PCP or ketamine to people, we’re not really a pharmacology group. But I bet someone has already done this with pattern MMN. The original idea was to focus it on stroke, or, more generally, to neurological disorders. However, despite many contacts, it has not been possible to identify 3-4 MMN researchers from this field who would be committed to travel without financial compensation. Our current suggestion is that we broaden the scope of this symposium so that it covers stroke (talk given by prof. Friedeman Pulvermüller or his colleague) but also involves other topics among neuroplasticity and MMN. We tried to figure out an optimal week for the congress, which is not during the holiday season (end of June-August) or the most intensive teaching period, which then would be in mid June. Please, distribute this information (below is a brief add to make it easier for you). "MMN 2018 - Adaptive Brain in Health and Disease" will be held in Helsinki in June 12-15, 2018. By that year the MMN has existed in the service of basic and applied research for 40 years and the tradition of the MMN congres has continued for 20 years.
