Hallucinations on the border of sleep, dementing illnesses, delirium, eye disease, and schizophrenia account for 90% of these. The remainder have rarer disorders. We review existing models of recurrent complex visual hallucinations (RCVH) in the awake person, including cortical irritation, cortical hyperexcitability, and cortical release, top down activation, misperception, dream intrusion, and interactive models. We provide evidence that these can neither fully account for the phenomenology of RCVH, nor for variations in the frequency of RCVH in different disorders. We propose a novel Perception and Attention Deficit model for RCVH. A combination of impaired attentional binding and poor sensory activation of a correct proto-object, in conjunction with a relatively intact scene representation, bias perception to allow the intrusion of a hallucinatory protoobject into a scene perception. Incorporation of this image into a context specific hallucinatory scene representation accounts for repetitive hallucinations. We suggest that these impairments are underpinned by disturbances in a lateral frontal cortex ventral visual stream system. We show how the frequency of RCVH in different diseases is related to the coexistence of attentional and visual perceptual impairments; how attentional and perceptual processes can account for their phenomenology; and that diseases and other states with high rates of RCVH have cholinergic dysfunction in both frontal cortex and the ventral visual stream. Several tests of the model are indicated, together with a number of treatment options that it generates. Kérjük, hogy az érdeklődők a pleh(a)cogsci.bme.hu* *címen emailen jelezzék, ha szeretnék hallgatni a kurzust. * A KOGNITÍV KUTATÁS TÖRTÉNETE * *Tömbösített kurzus a BME Pszichológiai Doktori Iskolájában, 2005. tavaszi félév* Előadó: Pléh Csaba, pleh(a)cogsci.bme.hu* A tantárgy célkitűzései: *az eszmetörténet és a tudománytörténet segítségével bemutatni, milyen hagyományokból indul ki a mai kognitív kutatás. Ez a történeti, filozófiai és módszertani tudatosság növelésén túl segít értelmezni a mai kognitív irányzatok eltéréseit is. A tömbösített formában néhány alapkérdésre összpontosítva tesszük ezt meg. <> *Követelmény* 1. Az irodalmak feldolgozása az egyes órákhoz. Aktivitás az órán. 40 % 2. Saját választott, s elfogadott témából 8-10 oldalas irodalomösszefoglaló dolgozat. Leadási május 15. 60 % A témákat varom mostantól, január 10tol. Az előadások témája A kognitív forradalom és előfutárai Az előadások, a kiadott anyagok és a megbeszélések azt a kérdést járják körül, hogy mennyire igaz a számítógépes metafora és a nyelvészet vezető szerepének gondolata a kognitív szemlélet megjelenésében, mennyire voltak alternatív gondolati és szociális források is, illetve, hogy az elismert központi témáknak milyen eddig kevésbé kultivált korábbi előzményeik vannak. A tudománytörténetírás paradigmáit illetően kissé prezentista lesz a bemutatás, de mindenütt utalok az első megjelenések s az újrafelbukkanások kontextális meghatározóira is. Bár csak néhány fejezetet veszünk, ugyanakkor a diákoknak a teljes anyagot ismerniük kell, elvárom, hogy előzetesen olvassák el a könyveket a megadott specifikus irodalmon túl, és ez az órai aktivistában ki is derüljön. Ehhez mellékletként megadom a tárgy alaptematikáját is. Korai gondolkodáslélektan: Külpe és a logika. Antilogicista évtizedek: alak és viselkedés. A kognitív forradalom mint Frege bosszúja. Selz jelentősége. Selz, Simon lesz a megvitatott. 10h30-12 *A tanulás formális modelljei és a mentális algebra. *Herbart* *algebrai elméje. Ebbinghaus törvények; Hull algebrája, Tolman térképei. Az információelmélet és a nyelvhierarchia. A konnekcionista hálózatalakulás és a gondolkodás algebrája. Herbart, Marcus a vitaanyag. Február 22 kedd 8h30-10 *Az evolúciós gondolat és a funkcionalizmus a kultúrában* Az evolúciós eszme és a kultúra. Klasszikus párhuzamok és ellentétek. Hogyan jelennek meg ma újra. A vélelmezett biologizmus. Rozin a vita. 10h30-12 *A tanulás és a visszahatás eszméje. *Hogyan lehet a szelekciós modell és a tanulás összeegyeztethető? A Baldwin hatástól Donald Campbellig. BaldwinandJung, fura, valóban Jungianus, és Campbellrol. Február 23. szerda 8h30-10 *Az innátizmus *Descartes-tól Chomskyig. Az etológia szerepe. Fejlődéskutatás és innátizmus: a "kompetens csecsemő" és a konstrukcionizmus. Innataness, konstruktivizmus cikkek a vitaanyag. 10h30-12 Az *interakciós fejlődéseszme.* Stern és Piaget. A mai genetikai magyarázatok zavari és az interakciós gondolat reneszánsza: Oyama, Karmiloff-Smith, Marcus.
