[Koglist] FELHÍVÁS: 19. Magyar Látás Szimpózium

F E L H Í V Á S ! ! ! A Szegedi Tudományegyetem Általános Orvostudományi Karának Élettani Intézete szimpóziumra invitál minden, az emberi és állati látórendszerek működése iránt, illetve tágabb értelemben, a biológiai információ feldolgozáshoz kapcsolodó neurális és kognitív folyamatok kutatása és modellezése iránt érdeklődő kollégát. A látáskutatás a retinába belépő fényinformáció elektromos kódolásától az ezen információnak az agykéregben történő (kognitív) megértéséig húzódó komplex folyamatot vizsgálja interdiszciplinális módon, az idegtudományok, a kísérletes pszichológia és a számítógépes analízis és modellezés eszközeivel. Összejövetelelünkön örömmel fogadunk minden nem kimondottan látással foglalkozó, de a szimpózium koncepciójához kapcsolódó előadást. A Magyar Látás Szimpózium több mint két évtizede rendszeresen megrendezésre kerülő hazai esemény, melynek házigazdája idén a Szegedi Tudományegyetem. A szimpózium kiváló lehetőséget nyújt a hallgatóság számára nemzetközi szintű előadásokon való részvételre és személyes kontaktust teremtésére a szakma hazai és külföldi képviselőivel. A szimpózium a következő formában kerül megrendezésre. I. Cím: 19. Magyar Látás Szimpózium II. Szervezők: Fiser József: Kognitív Tudományi Tanszék Közép Európai Egyetem, Budapest Krajcsi Attila: Kognitív Pszichológiai Tanszék, Pedagógia és Pszichológia Kar, ELTE, Budapest Sáry Gyula: Szegedi Tudományegyetem, Általanos Orvostudományi Kar, Élettani Intézet, Szeged Tompa Tamás: Two-photon Imaging Center, KOKI, Budapest III. Időpont, időtartam, hely: 2016 december 9, péntek (egy nap), SZTE IV. A szimpózium célja: A szimpózium fő célja, hogy fórumot, találkozási lehetőséget biztosítson azon hazai és külföldön dolgozó kutatóknak (neuroanatómusoknak, neurofiziológusok-nak, pszichológusoknak és neurális hálózatokat modellező elméleti szakembereknek), akik a látás központi idegrendszeri feldolgozásának problémájával kapcsolatos illetve ehhez hasonló területeken dolgoznak, valamint a téma iránt érdeklődő diákoknak. Figyelembe véve a téma interdiszciplinális voltát, a szimpózium második fő célja, hogy megvilágítsa a különböző területeken dolgozó kutatók és a hallgatóság előtt a tradicionálisan elkülönülő kutatási diszciplinák között már meglévő kapcsolatokat, és új kapcsolatok lehetőségeit egyengesse. A harmadik cél a látáskutatás hazai népszerűsítése. V. Forma: A szimpózium formája nagyon kötetlen, nyelve magyar. Minden előadó 15-perces előadást tart, 5-10 perces vitalehetőséggel az előadás után. Célunk nem a formalitás hanem, hogy minél több és minél közvetlenebb párbeszédre adjunk lehetőséget. VI. Résztvevők, előadások: A szimpóziumon szívesen látott mindenki, aki egyetért annak céljaival, és úgy érzi, hogy abba illő előadást tudna tartani, illetve érdekli a fenti témakör. A szimpózium profiljának megfelelően az előadások a látórendszeri anatómia és fiziológia, vizuális pszichofizika, magasabb szintű látáspszichológia, matematikai és számítógépes modellezés témakörökből állnak össze, de szívesen látunk mindenkit, akit általában a percepció és a felismerés témaköre érdekel. Külön bátorítjuk a témával foglalkozó TDK-s diákok jelentkezését, akiknek ez a fórum nagyon alkalmas arra, hogy előadói tapasztalatot szerezzenek. VII. Jelentkezés, határidők: Előadásra/poszterre és hallgatóként is az https://sites.google.com/site/latasszimpozium2016/ kitöltésével lehet. Jelentkezési határidő: 2016 november 20. Felkérjük azokat is, akik nem előadóként, hanem hallgatókent szeretnének részt venni, hogy jelezzék részvételi szándékukat a szervezőknek. Ily módon hozzávetőleges képet tudunk alkotni a várható létszámról, és névreszólóan tudjunk mindenkit tájékoztatni a további fejleményekről. VIII. Díjak, szállás: Részvételi díj nincs. A szimpózium egy napos, így szállásra csak azoknak van szüksége, akik hosszabb tartózkodást terveznek. Ilyen esetekben a szállás önköltséges, aminek megszervezésében a szervezők segítenek. VIII. Társas összejövetel: Mint ahogyan az előző szimpóziumoknál már megszokhattuk, idén is tervezzük a szimpózium kötetlen vacsorával való zárását. Kérjük azokat is, akik szeretnének részt venni a vacsorán, jelezzék részvételi szándékukat a szervezőknek a jelentkezési lapon. IX. I will talk about these serial dependencies, showing how they are the product of efficient mechanisms exploiting temporal redundancies in natural scenes, and may be critical for understanding perception. Serial dependencies can be negative - such as visual aftereffects - where viewing motion in one direction causes stationary stimuli to appear to move in the other; or they can be positive - such as "priming" - where viewing a stimulus distorts subsequent stimuli in the same direction. Many factors influence whether the dependencies are positive or negative, including the strength and salience of the priming stimulus. However, if the serial dependencies reflect efficient processing, they should also depend on the attribute being tested. Negative aftereffects optimize sensitivity to change, while positive serial dependencies integrate successive image views, improving signal-to-noise ratios. On this logic, positive dependencies should occur for stable attributes - such as identity and gender - and negative dependencies for changeable attributes - such as expression. Indeed, when we asked subjects to judge both the expression and gender of a sequence of faces, we found strong and consistent positive serial dependencies for gender, but negative serial dependency for expression. These results show that both positive and negative serial dependencies can operate at the same time, on the same stimuli, depending on the attribute being judged, pointing to very flexible and sophisticated optimization of past information. The results were well modelled by a Kalman filter type model, showing that the strategies led to improvement in efficiencies. The reported median effect size was d=0.93 (inter-quartile range: 0.64-1.46) for nominally statistically significant results and d=0.24 (0.11-0.42) for non-significant results. Median power to detect small, medium and large effects was 0.12, 0.44 and 0.73, reflecting no improvement through the past half-century. Power was lowest for cognitive neuroscience journals. 14% of papers reported some statistically significant results, although the respective F statistic and degrees of freedom proved that these were non-significant; p value errors positively correlated with journal impact factors. False report probability is likely to exceed 50% for the whole literature. In light of our findings the recently reported low replication success in psychology is realistic and worse performance may be expected for cognitive neuroscience.

Date: Wednesday, October 19, 2016 - 17:00-18:30 Location: Department of Cognitive Science, CEU, Oktober 6 St. 7, room 101 Representing self and other during musical joint action Musical ensemble performance is a sophisticated form of joint action that showcases the remarkable human capacity for precise interpersonal coordination. Such coordination requires some degree of self-other merging while maintaining the distinction between self and other. Integration of information related to one's own and others' actions assists in representing shared goals and evaluating joint outcomes. At the same time, segregation between the effects of actions produced by self and others facilitates agency attribution and autonomous movement control. In this talk, I will present research addressing how self-other integration and segregation are balanced in the auditory domain during musical joint action. I will report findings from sensorimotor synchronization experiments employing controlled laboratory paradigms and naturalistic musical tasks, as well as related computational modelling work and neuroimaging studies. Results suggest that achieving optimal balance between self-other integration and segregation requires finely tuned internal models of self, other, and joint action outcomes.
