Kedves Kollégák,
Szeretném a figyelmet felhívni néhány álláslehetőségre, mely a Komputációs Rendszerszintű Idegtudományi Csoportban (Komputációs Tudományok Osztálya, MTA Wigner) nyílik.
A jelentkezéseket orban.gergo(a)wigner.mta.hu címre kérjük elküldeni.
Jelentkezési határidő: 2018. december 15.
Üdvözlettel,

Title: How to Read in an Information Age? - Towards an Integrative Model of Close and Hyperreading
Abstract: Contemporary technological developments have drastically increased the amount of texts available through different media, leading to new reading habits. A shift has occurred from close reading, sustained and focused attention to the text, to hyperreading, non-linear, computer-assisted modes of reading such as skimming and scanning. Consequently, some fear, young people are losing the ability to concentrate. Meanwhile, print literacy skills obtained in school do not converge with digital reading tasks performed outside the classroom for leisure. The shift to online reading, therefore, entails a challenge for literature education. How to guide students in these new reading habits?
My research is aimed at developing an integrative or 'adaptive' model that bridges the gap between print and digital literacies by integrating close and hyperreading, and proposing ways of reading that oscillate between these two strategies. Today's multiform textual abundance demands an active attitude, asking readers to switch between sources; it involves a high degree of creativity in combining different modes of reading and determining when to choose what mode. Starting from an interdisciplinary theoretical framework of literary studies, cognitive studies of attention, and creativity research, I draw on experimental, multimodal literature to create a training environment for such an integrative literacy. Such texts solicit new modes of reading as they mimic our multimodal engagement with information in contemporary media spaces; yet they do so within the confines of a single work that offers a controlled and controllable environment. They form an ideal, unexplored site for developing a synergetic approach to print and digital literacies.

*Aims* While many new methods are developed these days that are applicable
in behavioral sciences, many valuable older methods are not used, because
they are not accessible, because researchers do not know how to use them,
or because researchers do not even know about them. The aim of the Best
practices symposium is to popularize either new or old solutions, to
familiarize researchers with these methods, and to make these methods more
accessible. In addition, the symposium is a great opportunity to discuss
and evaluate various methods to improve research practice.
*Previous symposium* Although we expect to see some changes compared to the
last year’s symposium, to get an impression about the symposium, see the
last year’s program here
<https://www.cogstat.org/best_practices_symposium/2017/index.html>.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
*Presentations* Potential talks may include:
- Presentation of new methods, preferably also offering computational
tools
- Presentation of older methods, that are hardly known among researchers
- Demonstration of software solutions that could make the analysis more
efficient
- Presentation of tutorials that introduce either new or older methods
*Small group hands-on tutorials* This year we introduce small group
hands-on tutorials. Potential tutorials may be:
- 60-120 minutes long
- They may require participants to have their own computer with
appropriate software installed on it
- Participants will register separately for the tutorial sessions
*Submission* Submit your abstract by filling out this form
<https://goo.gl/forms/BEntBnJkGGDztSfh2>.
*Deadline* The deadline for abstract submission is December 2, 2018.

The Science of Consciousness (TSC) 2019 is the 26th annual international interdisciplinary conference on fundamental questions and cutting-edge issues connected with conscious experience.
TSC is the largest and longest-running interdisciplinary conference emphasizing conceptual, empirical, cultural and even artistic approaches to the study of consciousness. Key areas include the philosophy of mind, cognitive science, neuroscience, anthropology, biology, physics, computer science and mathematics. Held annually since 1994, the TSC conferences alternate yearly between Tucson, Arizona and various locations around the world.
TSC conferences continue to bring together various perspectives, orientations, and methodologies within the study of consciousness. These include not only academic subjects within the sciences and humanities, but also contemplative and experiential traditions, culture and the arts. TSC aims to integrate viewpoints and bridge gaps, appreciates constructive controversy, and pursues the spirit of genuine dialogue. The format of the conference includes plenary sessions, in-depth workshops, concurrent sessions, poster sessions and social events.
