*Combining EEG and MRI in visual neuroscience: The case of perceptual
integration*
An overarching aim in visual neuroscience is to identify brain mechanisms
that produce a given sensation or perception. A percept often relies on
neural activity in dedicated brain regions, but also on a temporal code
that binds different brain areas into transient neural assemblies. For an
adequate description of the underlying brain mechanisms it is thus
necessary to acquire measures of neural activity with both a fine-grained
spatial and temporal resolution. I will show own examples for multimodal
neuroscience with combined MRI and EEG data that meet this requirement. The
experiments cover different aspects of visual perceptual integration,
across space or across features, in normal subjects and in synesthetes. The
results will demonstrate the advantages of
multimodal neuroscience for understanding visual perception.

Dear All,
Please, see the following call for papers from the organizers of EHBEA 2018:
Abstract submission is now open for the 2018 conference of the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association!
The annually held EHBEA conferences enable researchers working in evolutionary sciences to meet leading scholars in the field, exchange ideas and develop new research networks. They bring together researchers from human biology and genetics, behavioural ecology, cultural evolution, and evolutionary psychology. The 2018 conference will be held from April 4th to April 7th in Pécs, one of the most beautiful cities of Hungary. Our keynote speakers come from different fields of evolutionary sciences and will give talks on a wide range of topics:
* Marina Butovskaya (Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia): "Genes, aggression and reproduction in traditional African societies: an evolutionary approach"
* Maryanne Fisher (Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Canada): "What We Know (and Don't Know) about Women's Intrasexual Competition"
* Evelyne Heyer (National Museum of Natural History, Paris, France)
* Ádám Miklósi (Eötvös Lóránt University, Hungary): "On dogs and humans: An ethological approach to a friendship"
* Bogusław Pawłowski (University of Wrocław, Poland): "Immunity, body morphology and androgens - testing immunocompetence in men"
* the winner of the New Investigator Award 2018
Please note that we welcome abstract submissions<http://psychology.pte.hu/ehbea2018/abstract-submission-guidelines> for oral presentations and posters until January 7th 2018. Registration will start at the end of November.

Dear all,
The CEU Department of Cognitive Science cordially invites you to its talk by:
Constantin Rothkopf (Technical University Darmstadt)
Date: Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 – 17:00-18:30
Host: Gergely Csibra
Location: Department of Cognitive Science, CEU, Oktober 6 street 7, room 101.
Perception and action are inseparably intertwined: computational and experimental evidence
Abstract:
Active vision has long put forward the idea, that visual sensation and our actions are inseparable, especially when considering naturalistic extended behavior. Further support for this idea comes from theoretical work in optimal control, which demonstrates that sensing, planning, and acting in sequential tasks can only be separated under very restricted circumstances. The talk will present experimental evidence together with computational explanations of human visuomotor behavior in tasks ranging from classic psychophysical detection tasks to ball catching and visuomotor navigation. Along the way it will touch topics such as the heuristics hypothesis and learning of visual representations. The connecting theme will be that, from the switching of visuomotor behavior in response to changing task-constraints down to cortical visual representations in V1, action and perception are inseparably intertwined in an ambiguous and uncertain world.
