Kollegak, a tudomanyfilozofiai teazo kereteben marcius 21.-en, csutortokon 16 orakor (az eddig szokasos 17 ora helyett!) a Rakoczi u. 5., I. em. 105. teremben Jan Hendrik Schmidt Dept of Philosophy of Science, Cambridge University "A Physical Realization of Newcomb's Game" c. eloadasara kerul sor. Elnezest a kesoi tajekoztatasert, minket is varatlanul ert. Minden erdeklodot szeretettel varunk. Udvozlet kgy Eloadaskivonat: It is a common belief among philosophers that Newcomb's game ("Newcomb's paradox"), as proposed by Nozick in 1969, cannot be played in our world. Many have even claimed that there are philo- sophical reasons why it cannot be imagined at all and that there- fore, Newcomb's problem is ill-posed. In this lecture I propose a way of picturing Newcomb's game. I call it a "physical realization" because it is based on standard physics and thus can be imagined in a universe like ours. As far as I know, this is the first prposed realization which satisfies all of Nozick's original conditions. To support my proposal, I describe and explain the physical mechanisms that realize the game. Note that these mechanisms do not involve anything like ta- chyons, wormholes, or other relativistic or quantum mechanical constructs: Newtonian physics is entirely sufficient to put Newcomb's game into practice.

-------------------- H I R D E T M E N Y Az ELTE Altalanos Pszichologia Tanszek Lataskutatas csoportja immar hagyomanyosan szimpoziumra invital minden a biologiai latas/informaciofeldolgozas kutatasa es modellezese irant erdeklodot. A szimpozium az elozo ket evben tartott hasonlo jellegu osszejovetel folytatasakent kerul megrendezesre az alabbi formaban. I. Cim: Harmadik Magyar Latas Szimpozium: Dinamikus adaptacio, perceptualis tanulas, es tanulas hatasara torteno strukturalis valtozasok az idegrendszerben II. Idopont, idotartam, hely: 1996 augusztus 30 (1 nap), Budapest, Pszichologiai Tarsasag Eloadoterme, Oktogon III. Cel: A szimpoziumnak fo celja, hogy osszehozza azon hazai es kulfoldon dolgozo kutatokat, neuroanatomusokat, neurofiziologusokat, pszichologusokat es neuralis halozatokat modellezo elmeleti szakembereket, akik az idegrendszer adaptivitasanak problemajaval kapcsolatos teruleteken dolgoznak. A szimpozium az adaptacio kulonbozo ismert szintjeit (dinamikus adaptacio, kondicionalas/maradando adaptacio, perceptualis tanulas, hosszu tavu tanulas, memoria es idegstruktura fejlodes) vizsgalva arra a kerdeskorre koncentral, hogy a kulonbozo adaptacios jelensegek milyen tipikus tulajdonsagokkal rendelkeznek, milyen kozos alapjuk van, hogyan mukodnek egyutt es hozzak letre az idegrendszer nagyfoku alkalmazkodokepesseget. IV. Forma: A szimpozium nyelve magyar. Minden meghivott eloado 15-20 perces eloadast tart 5-10 perces vitaval. Reszveteli dij nincs. V. Resztvevok,eloadasok: Az resztvevok nevsora meg nem rogzitett. Szivesen latott mindenki, aki egyetert a szimpozium celjaival, es ugy erzi, hogy abba illo eloadast tudna tartani. Foleg olyan fiatalabb-idosebb kutatok szerepleset szeretnenk elerni, akik a cimben definialt terulethez kapcsolhatoan munkalkodnak. A talalkozo profiljanak megfeleloen az eloadasok latorendszeri anatomia es fiziologia, vizualis pszichofizika, magasabb szintu latas pszichologia, matematikai es szamitogepes modellezes temakorokbol allnak ossze. A latas a szimpozium fo vezervonala, de szivesen latunk olyan eloadasokat, melyek tagabban, az agy informaciofeldolgozasat vizsgaljak a latas problemajahoz kapcsolhatoan. VI.
