Who and why feel math anxiety?
Math anxiety is defined as a feeling of tension and worry that hinders performing numerical operations and solving mathematical problems in both academic settings and everyday life. While math anxiety is often analyzed in the context of explaining differences in mathematical achievement levels among students, relatively little is known about the prevalence and determinants of this phenomenon. The purpose of the talk will be to discuss the results of studies conducted among groups of Polish children, adolescents, and adults regarding the prevalence of math anxiety, the direction of the relationship between math anxiety and mathematical achievement, gender differences in the level of math anxiety, and the individual and environmental factors contributing to this type of anxiety.
Date: 2025 February 11, 4 p.m.
Venue: ELTE Psychology Institute, Budapest, Izabella street 46. Room P3
Best wishes,
Attila
