Dear all,

Fei Xu (UC Berkley)

Title: Learning in Early Development: Probabilistic, Logical, and Compositional Mechanisms

Abstract: Much research in our lab has focused on mechanisms of learning in infants and young children in the last couple of decades.  Here I will discuss (1) a body of work demonstrating the use of probabilistic learning mechanisms in young learners, and (2) more recent research investigating logical reasoning mechanisms and compositional mechanisms.  The latter is also concerned with the origin of abstract concepts and the language of thought hypothesis.
